Life has a funny way of playing out…when you least expect, opportunities and experiences are thrown at you. For some, you smile and thank your lucky stars while for others, you smile and thank your lucky stars…LOL – Every experience is a learning opportunity – It’s just what and how you perceive it to be.
Who knew that a random conversation with a dear friend would lead to me signing up for a Madhubani Indian Art Class which would in turn lead to an amazing experience of photographing an Indian Editorial Photoshoot! – Life! – gotta love all the unpredictabilities 🙂
When Jay (my art teacher) reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in helping her launch a few indian designers in a raw, rustic editorial photoshoot, I couldn’t have said ‘yes’ fast enough. We met to discuss outfits and concepts and the ideas just started flowing through. We knew we wanted something really raw and rustic. I immediately had a vision of how I wanted these photographs to look – slightly dark and matte. This is very different from my traditional style of clean, organic and fresh but it is great to experiment – you always learn something new!!
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect – a chilly and nippy April evening in Chicago in a dry rustic forest preserve provided just the right backdrop for these earthy colored saris and rustic vintage jewelry.
Jay and Shailaja were such a pleasure to work with – we could have gone on for hours and hours 🙂 – I think we actually did…LOL
Check out Jay’s blogpost for a little history behind each of the women featured here in this photoshoot – the clothes, the jewelry and the models 🙂 – While you are there, leave a comment for these two women – they did such a great job, their quiet elegance and grace gave the right amount of “umph” to these amazing saris and jewelry. They were traipsing around in the forest – saris and all!

Jay also has links to these featured designers should you want to own similar pieces of clothing and jewelry!
This last image is one of my favorites 🙂 – a great way to do a sneak peak…LOL. A beautiful collaboration of women!
